For those fresh faced members of the club, the title of this will mean nothing, so let me explain: SPOOK is a club for all ex-members of ShUOC and once a year they decend upon Sheffield for a weekend of carnage where they learn they are no longer as good as the current crop at Orienteering, Drinking, Football or dishing banter. It's hard to sell this weekend without getting too excited so I'll leave it by saying, most ShUOC members describe the weekend as better than Christmas. The details to the weekend are all below, if you want to attend things (in particularly the meal - worth it) then please email the spook address : [email protected] and post on the forum in relevant places to chat about teams etc. Or, if you haven't seen the email yet, with menu choices, email the spook address and ask to be added to the list/sent the email. SPOOK weekend 2012
provisional details Saturday 3rd November Morning: SPOOK Hash, starting from a top secret location in Crookes. £3 to cover some liquid refreshments. For those who have never done a hash before, here is a quote from the always reliable internet: “Hashing . . . it's a mixture of athleticism and sociability, hedonism and hard "work"; a refreshing break from the nine-to-five routine. Hashing is an exhilaratingly fun combination of running, orienteering, and partying, where bands of harriers and harriettes chase hares on eight-to-ten kilometre-long trails through town, country, jungle, and desert, all in search of exercise, camaraderie, and good times.” (http://half-mind.com/Hashing/who.php). More information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_House_Harriers Evening: SPOOK dinner, Tapton Masonic Hall. Black tie dinner with the legendary Deano of the Disco playing 70’s tunes. £30 per head. Please see the attached document for menu choices. Deadline for submission of payment and menu choices is the 24th October. - This will most likely be followed by a compulsory trip to Pop Tarts Sunday 4th November Morning: SPOOK Relays. Orienteering at SYO regional event, Greno Woods. See attached flyer for more information. Please enter this event in advance on the SYO website. Submit names of SPOOK pairings in advance or on the day, scores based on finishing positions in class, lowest score wins. Any draw will have to be settled on the String course. Separate M/W competition. Hopefully we will have a SPOOK tent available for people to sit in and discuss their hangovers/coo at babies. Afternoon: SPOOK vs. ShUOC Football match. As previously. - check the forum for details on the location/time/team/cheerleader formation Evening: Captains Memorial, most likely at the Nottingham House. For those who are not aware of this fine tradition, SPOOK members contribute a donation which goes behind the bar for everyone’s enjoyment. The evening includes the ShUOC awards and the famous SPOOK/ShUOC boat races. I would like to request a donation of £20, but obviously this can vary either way depending on how much you plan to drink. If you are not able to attend but still wish to make a donation this will be gratefully received. To make life easier at the bar, please consider donations to be for beer/cider only. Please email [email protected] with menu choices including any special dietary requests, the amount you intend to donate to Captains, teams for the SPOOK relays, and if you are attending the hash or not. Monies will need to be transferred to the SPOOK account which are detailed on the email See you there! Gaz & Charli - The email also has the menu for the Saturday evening attached to it.
