And that's a wrap!! It's the end of the first semester, and what a semester it has been!!
And what better way to round up for Christmas than UXD celebrations! On Wednesday the club set off early for a run up to headstones, followed by a hearty breakfast, and then met in Crookes Valley Park for the iconic VK challenge. The win was taken by Jason Hayman, with Dominic Green close behind and Will Lake placing 3rd! The day was rounded off in the best way - down the pub! ShUOCers have been orienteering across the country this week. Many took part in the SYO score event round Ecclesall Woods on Saturday: 3rd Adam Conway, 7th Joe Thomas, 14th Ben Stevens, 39th Adrien Gallet, 43rd Thomas Entwistle, 57th Jack Baker, 63rd Abbie Walker. But other members have raced elsewhere. Our captain Eleanor took part in the PFO Waterfoot Street O, Rebecca competed at the NGOC Bixlade event, Jonty ran the EPOC Pontefract O, and Will ran round Port Eynon in a santa hat! On Sunday, many members took part in the Steel City Trail 10km at Whirlow. Conditions were windy, but some great racing! 1st Adrien Gallet, 3rd Chloe Potter, 7th Jack Baker, 11th Abbie Walker, 12th Ben Stevens, 18th Liam Overett, 23rd Charlotte Mosley. What a great way to finish the semester, well done all!!!!! 📸 John Egginton ShUOC was getting into the Christmas spirit this week! On Wednesday we had our Christmas Meal at the Fat Cat, where both beer and gravy was drunk by the pint, followed by a trip down West Street and into ROAR!
On Thuesday, Springvale Spirals, the 2nd of Tim Tett's Urban Nights races, too place! Well done to Adrien on his win, and to everyone else who took part - the plodder and the sprinters! Across Saturday and Sunday, the Lakeland Warrior Weekend too place in Haverthwaite and then Witherslack. Well done to Adam Conway (25th/26th) and Dominic Green (33rd/25th) on their runs across both days, and also to SPOOK alumni Chloe Potter and Joe Woodley on their podium positions on the Sunday race! Others from ShUOC made the most of the rainy weather and got out for some long runs out from Sheffield across the weekend, including the crew mourning the lack of the Percy Pud race. And finally, well done to all the ShUOCers who took part in the latest South Yorkshire X-Country race!!!! Stay strong, it's nearly time for a break! With the entrance of December, some turn to celebrating Christmas, but here in ShUOC, there is only SPOOKmas!
The weekend got off to a bang with the Relays in Bowden Housteads planned by our very own Maya Hampshire Wright! The weather outside was frightful, but the wood was so delightful! A strong set of teams out there, well done all!!! Congratulations to SPOOK Team Blumpkin (Matt Elkington & Will Gardner) on their win! - Full results available on the Facebook group. Once everyone's fingers had eventually thawed, it was time to dress to impress for the SPOOK meal! Thank you to the staff at the Garison Hotel, and a big shout out to the DJ who agreed to play the legendary song that is You and Me by Nicola Manfredi - the music in poptarts could never top it The snowy conditions trashed some peoples plans of the Percy Pud 10km race (although some with hangovers were actually rather thankful), but lots of people still got out in the snow for pre-football runs! The infamous SPOOK vs ShUOC football match commenced in the afternoon, with the compressed snow giving way to slippy conditions. As per usual SPOOK dominated the pitch, but ShUOC didn't go down without a fight! Notty House was rammed with SPOOK and ShUOC come Sunday night. The beer races were dominated by SPOOK (shocking nobody), but ShUOC showed they wouldn't be outdone and sent fresher Will Lake to take on and succed at the infamous Yard Of Ale. Thank you to Matt Elkington for organising the weekend, and to everyone else who helped SPOOK take place! See y'all at next year's SPOOK! |
