Across the year ShUOC runs a set of trips. Alongside weekends away for competitions like BUCS and Fell Relays, other trips are held to let members train and run in places outside of Sheffield - incorporating a lot of socialising of course!
Trips held over the last few years...
Freshers Weekend -
Hosted in the Lake District during the autumn, this is a great chance to practice those navigation skills in technical terrain, and get up running across some of the most beautiful hills in the country!! Wales Weekend - In 2024 the Wales trip was also based in the beautiful Ogden Valley, with complex orienteering training on the sandunes of Newborough Forest (Anglesea), and fell running around Tryfan, The Glyders, and up Yr Wyddfa. This trip takes place around February time. Trip Abroad - Each summer, ShUOC tries to get away to a competition abroad, and incorporate training and a bit of sightseeing in too! In 2023, ShUOC headed over to beautiful Finland to take part in the infamous orienteering relay Jukola. Training in Finnish forests in the days before helped them prepare, and trips to Helsinki and a trip on the ferry over to Stockholm, Sweden, gave some great opportunities to soak up the local sights. In 2024, many members are made the trip to Edinburgh for WOC, and then to Sweden for O-Ringen. Competitions - ShUOC has regular weekends away for major events, trying to travel across the country to compete in the best races in both Fell and Orienteering that the UK has to offer! |
