ShUOC was rewarded with University Club of the Year by British Orienteering over the Easter Period. We asked our Captain, Evan, what his thoughts were on gaining the award and what the future looks like for the club.
"I'm immensely proud that ShUOC is British Orienteering's University Club of the Year 2022 - this is some completely deserved recognition for a fantastic club. Huge thank yous are in order to everyone who has invested time and energy into ShUOc over the tough last few years, from committees past and present to our amazing members who make the club what it is! This has been a fantastic year for ShUOC, and its been an absolute privilege to be captain - a role made almost easy by the rest of our fantastic committee and members. Some successes from the last year include hosting the return of BUCS orienteering, an event designed to be the most inclusive ever; increasing our membership by 30% from last year and engaging new members through a variety of in person and virtual events; some outstanding individual and team results both in orienteering and fell running; redesigning our website and increasing our online presence as a club and - most importantly - I hope remaining a fun club for everyone involved. I'm incredibly excited for the future of ShUOC, and I believe that this year has set us up for every success going forward!" - Evan, ShUOC 2022 Captain |
