News from the fells: it was ShUOC domination again last night with a 1,2,3,4 at the local "classic" Totley Moor Fell Race.
Sporting the legendary gimp/tank tops, Will Gardner took it from the fast improving Matt Elkington. Chasing hard was fell-racing new boy Adam Potter (3rd) just holding off Jack Wright (4th) who had a fantastic run considering his 6 month break. All four runners within a minute of each other and all comfortably breaking 36 mins. Another solid run for the king of the mountain bike himself, Mike Beasant who finished in 24th. These local "classics" are ideal for beginners who would like to give it a go. Not too demanding with great views at the top! C'mon freshers - you know you want to! Please take a moment, if you haven't already done so, to vote for Charlotte Ward as she endeavours to get £1000 towards her competitions this year - http://www.marsmilk.com/play-fund-2015/clubs/charlotte-ward
Thanks to everyone who made it down to our club photo this afternoon - looking (mostly) very dapper in our social tops:
The club were out in full force for Burbage Skyline on Tuesday. Some fantastic results with 5 of our athletes in the top ten. Tommy Horton won in 37:13 with Jonny Crickmore 23 seconds back in 2nd. Matt Elkington came in 3rd well under 40mins. Adam Potter (9th) and Nic Barber (10th) finished off the top ten. Well done to Mike Beasant (25th), Patrick Jones (31st), Alex Moore (43rd) and Edward Lawrence (51st).
Two of our current members and one ex-ShUOCer travelled over to Sweeden for the TioMila 10-man night relay. Former ShUOCer Kris Jones smashed Leg1 for his Lillomarka team, coming in with the leading pack. Ex-Captain William Gardner ran the Long Night Leg of OK Sodertorn, coming in 78th and gaining 17 places. Joe Woodley ran Leg2 for Lillomarka's 2nd team, posting the 121st fasted leg in the Swedish night.
Fantastic racing by all! The English Fell Running Champs, held in Stretton Hills on Saturday saw four of our guys battling a 10km race with nearly 1000m of up and down. ShUOC brought home some fantastic results with Tommy Horton finishing in a fantastic 13th with Jonny Crickmore just behind in 14th. They were 1st and 2nd under 23's respectively. Tom Saville was 23rd (4th U23) and Nic Barber came in 37th - fantastic results all round.
Congratulations to Matt Elkington (M20) who was crowned Champion in the British Middles today - smashing the rest of the field by 2mins. Also well done to Olly Williams and Adam Potter (9th and 10th respectively in the M20. Charlotte continued her successful weekend with 16th in the W21 and Tamsin Moran came in 25th so well done to both of them.
Check out our photo gallery for some photos of summer circuits courtesy of ex-coach Rhona! Good opportunity to see who's the best at planking and who can't really be bothered, mentioning no names...
Massive congratulations to our very own Charlotte Ward (W21) who took the British Sprint title this weekend by a huge 40sec margin!
The time has come for us to say goodbye to the old committee and welcome in come fresh-faced newbies (and some of the old committee who somehow managed to get themselves re-elected) who hopefully will do a fabulous job in keeping the club as wonderful as it already is.
Take a look at our committee page for some more information and fun facts about us! The AGM went well despite us being unable to hold it at our favourite restaurant... A very civilised meeting lead us to some even more civilised drinks before the club headed off to the traditional post-AGM meal. A disappointingly empty ROAR left and intrepid few wandering the streets of Sheffield and it's rumoured that they ended up in West Street Live where they simultaneously celebrated and commiserated their triumphs/disappointments regarding the AGM results. Needless to say fun was had by all and once exams are over i'm sure the new social secretary will have something extra special planned for us. Thanks again to last year's committee for doing such a fab job! |
