MEET THE  COMMITTEE

As a committee, we are here to make sure you get the most out of both disciplines of Orienteering and Fell Running. More importantly to make your experience of club sport at the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University the best it can be!

Captain
Dom Green (Economics)

Picture
"Despite what it looks like in pictures, I do actually enjoy orienteering (and fell running sometimes). In the last 2 years, ShUOC has provided me with some of my best memories, and hopefully I can steer this ship in a positive direction, and hopefully help us beat EUOC... "

Talk to them about:
Anything at all

Treasurer
Abbie Walker (Mechanical Engineering)

Picture
"I’ve been running most of my life in some capacity, but transitioned from road/track to fell as it’s just more interesting and a great way to run in amazing places. I only started orienteering at uni, so I’m still new to the sport, but it’s such a great way to spend even more time outdoors exploring!
ShUOC is a really welcoming club, and there’s always something going on to get involved in!"

Talk to them about: Anything to do with finances

Training Coordinator
Jess Harrison (Bioengineering)

"I joined ShUOC in 1st year to make some friends, and here I am 4 years later with a great bunch of weirdos who love silly activities. I love being outside, enjoy throwing myself down hills and am trying to stop injuring myself!"

Talk to them about:
Our regular training sessions or if you want any advice about your own training.

Fell Running Coordinatior
Matthew Birkenshaw  (Maths)

Picture
"I’ve joined the committee as a fresher as a great opportunity to become more involved in the club. Although I am mostly an orienteer, I have a lot of experience running in the fells being from the Lake District and I am looking forward to getting out for more runs in the peaks with the rest of the club."

Talk to them about:
Fell training or races

Social Secretary
Max Watson  (Computer Science)

Picture
"I’ve spent 2 years in ShUOC, with no real running experience before joining, and found it an incredibly welcoming club. I’ve loved learning to orienteer (as well as suffer through the fell races I’m convinced to attend)!
The social side of the club is a big part of the welcoming attitude, and I hope to continue that this year by putting on a great calendar of events, with a mixture of both sober and drinking socials. I look forward to meeting all our new members, especially those who were beginners to the sport like me."

Talk to them about:
How to get involved with the social side of the club. What the events are we run (both alcoholic and non alcoholic), what they entail etc...

Publicity Officer
Rebecca Ward (Primary Education 5-11)

Picture
"Usually out on a run somewhere, or scrolling through Strava dreaming of running...
I’ve been orienteering since I was little, and I love travelling to new areas and racing on technical terrain (even if I do get lost!). Sheffield is such a great place to run and train, and in ShUOC you are never short of amazing people to go for runs with in the valleys and peaks!"

Talk to them about:

Anything with our social media accounts or website

Secretary
Adam Conway
 (Aerospace Engineering)

Picture
"3 things you need to know about me:
- The only words in my vocab: whack a bearing on the red line
- Officially a skog merchant
- Allergic to tarmac"

Talk to them about:
Any upcoming trips

Inclusions
Andy Macdonald (Medicine)

Picture

A little bit about me: I run pole pole, I’ve had too many regrettable social top nicknames, I finally own a thumb compass & dibber, none of this is worth taking seriously....

Talk to them about:
Any inclusions issues or worries

Orienteering Coordinator
Jonty Cope (Environmental Science)

Picture

"Running is a really great way to explore and experience landscapes in a different way. It is great to get out into the Peak District as much as possible! ShUOC are a friendly group, and it has been really rewarding seeing progress from training together!"

Talk to them about:
Orienteering specific training, if you want any maps for areas or want to know how to improve your navigation skills

Safety Officer
Cynog Williams (Medicine)

Picture
"I’ve been fell and mountain running for a few years now, and will try and make sure everyone comes down from the hills in one piece.
Running through the hills allows so much exploration and I would recommend crawling up and falling down hills to all. Let me know if you have any questions or want to borrow any kit"

Talk to them about:
Safety during training, trips and social events

Kit Officer
Eleanor Ellis (Geography)

Picture
"I've been running most of my life, and as I got older I transitioned from road to fell as it's just a bit more interesting, and a great way to run in amazing places!

Talk to them about:
Ordering and buying kit
