YOUR  COMMITTEE

As a committee, we are here to make sure you get the most out of both disciplines of Orienteering and Fell Running. More importantly to make your experience of club sport at the University of Sheffield the best it can be. Here is the 2021/22 committee:

Captain
Evan Bowers (Dentistry)

Picture
"I've been orienteering for about 8 years and I have recently got involved with fell running. I really enjoy the additional challenge and great locations compared with just running. The social side has been fantastic ever since joining SHUOC"

Talk to him about:
Anything at all!

Treasurer
Ben Stevens (Geography)

Picture
"Being part of ShUOC over the past two years has allowed me to continue orienteering and introduced me to fell running - the club has always got something on. Throw in an awesome bunch of people and I've made some pretty good memories. Looking forward to making some more!"

Talk to him about: Anything to do with finances!

Physical Coach
Daniel Gibson (Economics)

Picture
"I only started trail running when I came to university. With ShUOC, I have done everything from fell running up a mountain, to trying to tell the difference between a significant and non significant bush. Can't forget the socials as well, even if I can't remember all of them!"
Talk to him about:
Our regular training sessions or if you want any advice about your own training.

Social Secretary
Jess Harrison (Bioengineering)

Picture
"I started running in high school when I did cross country and when in college I then started road running to keep up my fitness. When coming to uni I decided to join shuoc as it was a great way to get to know the trails around Sheffield and to meet people with similar interests. I’ve really enjoyed being a part of the club this year as it has developed my running and it has been the best way to meet people."

Talk to her about:
How to get involved with the social side of the club. What the events are we run (both alcoholic and non alcoholic), what they entail etc.

Publicity Officer
Laura Harrison (Sports Science)

Picture
"I have been orienteering all my life and competed for my local club, Yorkshire and England. Its an amazing sport which challenges you physically and mentally and all abilities can get involved. ShUOC has been an amazing experience: with socials, training and competing!"

Talk to her about: Anything with our social media accounts

Inclusions and Welfare Officer
Abbie Shorrock (Mechanical Engineering)

Picture
"I started running more frequently at home in the first lockdown and wanted to keep it up when I went back to uni. I decided to join ShUOC as I’d always wanted to try fell running, especially since you get to run in the beautiful Peak District. I’ve made lots new friends, being able to enjoy running as well as social events with the club and can’t wait to continue as a committee and club member this coming year!"
Talk to her about:
Any concerns you may be having or if you feel uncomfortable within the club.

Secretary
Alice Gamble (Civil Engineering)

Picture
"Whilst my dad has always been a keen fell runner, it wasn't until I joined ShUOC that I really took to the sport. The peaks provided some beautiful locations for social runs whilst also being able to compete with ShUOC further afield across the UK. Having people to run with makes a real difference!"

Talk to her about:
Any upcoming trips or any organisational side of the club.

Fell Running Coordinator
Alex Mason (Material Science Engineering)

Picture
"I've only been running for around 3 years now but I was immediately drawn to fell running more than any other disciplines as it's an extremely friendly, accessible and exciting sport. ShUOC is the perfect club to do it in with great routes in the Peak District right on our door step."

Talk to him about:
If you have any questions about fell runs or races

Orienteering Coordinator
Tom Howell (Electrical and Electronic Engineering)

Picture
"Having been an orienteer for 11 years I joined SHUOC when I came to Sheffield as a nice way to continue with the sport. Its been a great way to both continue the competitive side of the sport as well as to get to experience the great social side that there is to SHUOC"

Talk to him about:
Orienteering specific training, if you want any maps for areas or want to know how to improve your navigation skills.

Safety Officer
Tom Snow (Computer Systems Engineering)

Picture

"I've been orienteering for about 7 years and joined ShUOC 2 years ago. I love to plod around both orienteering courses and a few longer mountain marathons. The best part about ShUOC for me is the social side: never before have I drank out of a pepper."
Talk to him about:
How the club ensures everyone is safe out on the fells, on trips and social events.

Kit Officer
Jack Baker (Medicine)

Picture
"I joined ShUOC in my second year at Sheffield but I was a keen runner before I came to university. I have really enjoyed being introduced to orienteering and fell running as they are both much more engaging than just road running. I have taken part in my first fell race with the club and hoping to start competing in orienteering when I have had some more training. Everyone is really friendly and the social runs are a great way to make new friends and catch up!"

Talk to him about:
Ordering and buying kit.
